WE MUST AUDIT OUR PERSONAL LIVES TO ENSURE WE LIVE WELL
Every successful venture is subject to controls and periodic audits. Ventures that fail are those that do not submit to checks and balances. If it is necessary for successful financial undertakings to submit to audits, what about personal lives?
If well-planned enterprises, with clearly set out objectives, and managed by competent personnel run into financial troubles, what about individuals? What measures can ensure successful living? The answer is provided in a significant sentence gleaned from the writings of Baha’u’llah, founder of the Baha’i faith, in which all people are enjoined to “Bring thyself to account each day ere thou art summoned to a reckoning, for death shall unheralded come upon thee, and thou shalt be called to give account for thy deeds.”
One questions one’s own intentions and attitudes in dealing with people and issues. Were prime requisites of honesty and justice observed? And other attributes of politeness, patience, humility, generosity and forbearance? Merits and demerits are noted, and slots identified for improvement. Thus, each day becomes a learning experience, and a means of ensuring steady progress on the spiritual highway of life.
The result? A fair report-card upon leaving this world, and a warm welcome at the pearly gates. Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers. The views expressed are personal
