LONDON: Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects to be back in work in the New Year and has fielded enquiries from all over the world, he told German newspaper Bild.

Wenger, who left Arsenal in May after 22 years in charge, said he did not know what his next job would be but he felt rested and am ready to work again.

“I believe (I will) start again on Jan. 1. I don’t know (where) yet,” the Frenchman told German newspaper Bild in an interview published on Wednesday.

“There are associations, national teams, it could be also in Japan,” added the 68-year-old who coached Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight before joining Arsenal.

“From my 22 years at Arsenal, I have big experience on different levels. There are enquiries from all over the world.” Wenger won three Premier League titles at Arsenal but his final years at the north London club were more turbulent as they went 14 seasons without lifting the Premier League trophy.

BAYERN SEEK WIN

BERLIN: Bayern Munich’s trip to VfL Wolfsburg this weekend could represent one of the last chances for under-fire coach Niko Kovac to turn things around for the German champions, who have failed to win any of their previous three Bundesliga matches.

The Bavarians, who have won the last six league titles, sit in sixth place on 13 points, four adrift of leaders Borussia Dortmund. They also travel to AEK Athens for a Champions League group game next week.

A German Cup winner with Eintracht Frankfurt last season, Kovac has struggled to get the best out of his squad, with club president Uli Hoeness showing concern over their current form when he watched training from his office window on Wednesday. Kovac has had some good news, though, with Leon Goretzka, Jerome Boateng and Rafinha all back in training following injuries and available for Saturday’s match.

HENRY STARTS REIGN

PARIS: Thierry Henry starts his reign as AS Monaco coach with a trip to Strasbourg on Saturday as Ligue 1 resumes following the international break.

Henry faces a big task to revive the club where he started his glittering playing career, with Monaco, French champions and Champions League semi-finalists in 2017, languishing 18th in the 20-team standings after winning one of their first nine games. “This club will always have a big place in my heart,” Henry told reporters on Wednesday. “So to be able to come here and start again, it is a dream come true. There is a lot of work to do, as you can imagine - but I am more than happy to be here.”

Henry was assistant coach of the Belgium team who finished third at this year’s World Cup.
