GURUGRAM: The 18-year-old son of additional district and sessions’ judge Krishan Kant succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning at a private hospital in the city, almost 10 days after he was shot at by the judge’s personal security officer (PSO), Gurugram Police constable Mahipal Singh, in broad daylight at Arcadia Market in Sector 49.

Dhruv had been on life support after being shot in the head on October 13. His organs were donated to the hospital by his father. Dhruv’s mother, 38-yearold Ritu Garg, was with him at the time of the shooting. She was also shot at by the PSO. She had succumbed later that day.

“Dhruv was in a state of coma and was declared brain dead by doctors at 3:01am Tuesday. The father of the boy appealed to the hospital that any organ that can be used to save the lives of others should be used. But considering the injuries that he had sus- tained, we could only salvage the liver and both his kidneys. These will be used to save lives,” said a spokesperson from Medanta, the hospital where the boy was admitted.

Family members said that Kant wanted his son to live on even after his death, so his organs were donated. “It was Krishan Kant’s desire that his son made a difference and his organs should be of use to others,” uncle of the deceased Sunil Bansal, said.

According to the organ retrieval authorization form (a copy of which is with the Hindustan Times), “The organs were donated under Section 6 of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994 (Centre Act 42 of 1994) for retrieval of the liver and both kidneys for the purpose of transplantation from Dhruv’s body.”
