Shot at by robbers, petrol pump staffer dies

MUKTSAR : The manager of a filling station in Muktsar who was shot at by unidentifi­ed men before robbing him and his colleague of ₹9.9 lakh on October 15 succumbed to injuries at a Bathinda hospital on Wednesday.

Gagandeep Singh and another petrol pump employee were on a two-wheeler that afternoon when five men in a Maruti Swift car intercepte­d them and fired three bullets at Gagandeep one of which hit him in the stomach. The men, who had their faces covered, also attacked his colleague with a sharp-edged weapon and fled from the spot after looting the cash they were carrying.

Gagandeep is survived by his wife and parents.

His body was cremated after conducting post-mortem examinatio­n on it. His family demanded strict action against the guilty.

Even as it has been 10 days since the incident, police have failed to get any lead in the case.

Muktsar city station house officer (SHO) Bhupinder Singh said, “Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been added to the first informatio­n report (FIR). We are investigat­ing the case and no arrest has been made so far.”

A case was registered against five persons under Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery, or dacoity in a bid to cause death or grievous hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
