GURUGRAM: The district medical negligence board has received 86 complaints against both private and government hospitals in the past year.

This number is the highest in the state — far more than the number of complaints of medical negligence received in other districts, according to members of the board.

“Gurugram has received the highest number of medical negligence complaints in Haryana. Many other districts, such as Rewari and Rohtak, haven’t received more than one or two complaints of negligence in the past year since the boards were formed,” Dr Sanjay Narula, convener of the board, said.

Dr Deepa Sindhu, principal medical officer at Civil Hospital, confirmed the same. “There were only two complaints of negligence in the past year in Rewari. Other districts too only received a couple of complaints,” she said.

Both doctors Narula and Sindhu said the reason of the high number of complaints in Gurugram is due to the presence of several corporate hospitals.

“Gurugram has the highest number of corporate hospitals in the state. People admit themselves and their families there, and in exchange for a high fee, expect hospitals to fully cure them of all illnesses, which is impossible,” he said.

Till date, of the 86 complaints, resolution reports of 74 complaints have been submitted and eight complaints are scheduled to be heard. Four complaints are still pending with the board.
