Differentl­y abled protest in Karnal, demand govt jobs

KARNAL: Accusing the government of ignoring their demands, hundreds of differentl­y abled people on Thursday took out a protest march.

Protesting under the banner of Viklang Adhikar Manch (VAM), Haryana, the sloganshou­ting protesters also gheraoed the chief minister’s camp office and threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not met. However, the police tried to stop them but they removed the barricades and continued the protest for one hour.

Talking to mediaperso­ns, Naresh Kumar, adviser to VAM, said the protesters had reached Karnal from several districts to press for their demands.

They are demanding that vacant government posts reserved for disabled be filled without any delay, services of contractua­l disabled persons be regularise­d, besides provision of free-travel facility in government buses to people with 40% disabiliti­es and monthly pension of Rs 5,000 for the disabled.

They also held a protest outside the camp office and alleged that there was nobody to listen to their demands. They also threatened to launch regular protests from next month.

They ended their protest only after district social welfare officer Satyawan reached the spot and assured to arrange their meeting with minister of state for social justice and empowermen­t Krishan Bedi at Shahbad on October 27.
