He had pre-planned the murder: Police

-

GURUGRAM: Harnek Singh Dhillon (76), who allegedly confessed to the murder of 51-year-old Jaskaran Singh, had planned the murder and had called him to his house on October 14 on the pretext of returning his money, the police said.

The police said that, according to Dhillon, when Singh entered the house, he took him to his bedroom and attacked him with a sword that he had got sharpened two days prior to the murder.

“He took Singh to his bedroom and stabbed him multiple times until he died. That is when the neighbours had heard the noise. Within a few minutes, his wife had arrived home and was shocked to see Singh lying in a pool of blood,” said Vishnu Prasad, station house officer, DLF Phase 2 police station.

Dhillon was produced in court on Friday. The Sector 29 police took him on a five-day police remand as the missing person’s case was lodged at their police station. The police said that Dhillon changed his statement in the court, accused the police of having forced him to confess to the crimes and claimed to be innocent.

“He is still cooking up stories and is a tough nut to crack,” said Prasad.

The police said that during interrogation, he had allegedly revealed that he took the help of an accomplice (whose identity has been withheld by the police) to chop the body into 15 parts, wrap it in polythene and stuff it into cartons and bags before driving away with it.

According to the police, Dhillon disposed of the body in a stream in Nabha, Patiala, 287 kilometres from Gurugram. “He packed the body in parts and kept them in his Hyundai Santro car. He left home around 11.30pm along with his wife and friend, who was his accomplice in the crime. They drove for around six hours and dumped the body in a running stream,” said Karan Goyal, assistant commissioner of police (DLF).

Dhillon returned home in the evening of October 15 and after two days, got the staircase, walls and roof of his living room repainted.

Saif Mahto (55), a Chakkarpur resident, said he undertook the job of painting and he was paid Rs1,400 for the task. “The walls of the living room and staircase were in need of a fresh coat of paint. Uncle called me and showed me the house, saying that there was also seepage problem in the wall. I was unaware of any murder and learned about it only after I received a call from the police on Wednesday,” he said.

The police is likely to take Dhillon to Punjab to recover the body and have, meanwhile, informed the Punjab police.
