Dilbagh Singh appointed full-time DGP of J&K

SRINAGAR: The State Administra­tive Council on Wednesday confirmed the appointmen­t of Dilbagh Singh as the director general of J&K police.

The meeting of the SAC was headed by governor Satya Pal Malik in winter capital Jammu. There were two other officers in the panel and council gave nod to Dilbagh Singh who is a 1987 batch IPS officer.

In September, Dilbagh Singh was given an additional charge as the director general of police after government unceremoni­ously removed SP Vaid as DGP and posted him as the transport commission­er.

Dilbagh, who is an 1987 batch IPS officer from Punjab, has served in almost all parts of Jammu and Kashmir. He was the senior superinten­dent of police, Baramulla, in late 1990s when militancy was at its peak in north Kashmir.

He has also served as deputy inspector general of police (DIG) (north Kashmir).

Dilbagh Singh had a successful stint as the IGP (Jammu) and as IG (Crime) where he handled many high profile cases.

Singh was also the first investigat­ing officer of the 1991 alleged mass rape cases in Kunan Poshpora, Kupwara. Soon after taking over as the director general of police, Dilbag Singh visited almost all the police districts of the Jammu and Kashmir and interacted with the officers.
