Ensure status quo on Punjab, Haryana share in Chandigarh posts: Capt to PM
CHANDIGARH: Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to maintain status quo on Punjab and Haryana share in the administrative posts of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Seeking his personal intervention, the CM requested Modi to advise the Union ministry of home affairs for early steps to maintain the ratio of 60:40 between Punjab and Haryana in filling of civil posts in the UT, as achieved over a period of time.
In a letter to the PM, Captain mentioned that it was heartening to note that the Union government had agreed to keep in abeyance its notification of September 25, 2018, merging the posts of DSPs of Chandigarh Police with Delhi, Andaman, Nicobar Islands Police Service, in response to his letter of October 1 this year.
The CM pointed out that currently of the 14 IAS officers posted in the Chandigarh administration, only three belonged to Punjab and two to Haryana, and the remaining officers were from the UT cadre.
Similarly, of the seven IPS officers posted in Chandigarh, only one each belonged to Punjab and Haryana, whereas the remaining five are from the UT cadre.
Apparently, the ratio of 60:40 was also not being maintained in placing the officers in Chandigarh administration, he said, adding that the situation was similar with respect to other categories of employees, such as teachers, doctors and other civil officers posted in the Chandigarh administration.
The CM also wrote to Union minister for consumer affairs, food & public distribution Ram Vilas Paswan seeking driage loss at the rate of 2% instead of 1% of the minimum support price (MSP) so as to ensure hassle-free procurement for the remaining kharif season.
In a letter to Paswan, the CM pointed out that such relaxation was warranted primarily on account of the excessive/abnormal/untimely rain and hailstorm that occurred immediately before harvesting, which had adversely impacted the outturn ratio, thus causing problems in procuring paddy due to the relatively highmoisture content.
The CM apprised Paswan that higher moisture content in paddy arrivals in several mandis, coupled with dip in temperature due to unusual climatic conditions this year, had led to unrest amongst the millers and the farmers, which was hampering the paddy purchase operations.
