‘SAD core panel to take call on Harsimrat’s candidature’

-

ALISHER (SANGRUR): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday said the party core committee will take a call on the candidature of Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

He said it was for the SAD core panel to decide if Harsimrat would contest against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur or fight from some other segment in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“The SAD is yet to take a final decision on who will fight from which segment in the upcoming polls,” Sukhbir said.

The SAD president was at Alisher village near Lehragaga to attend ‘Kabaddi Cup’ organised in the memory of Manmeet Alisher, a Punjabi singer and composer, who was set on fire in Australia’s Brisbane in 2016.

Harsimrat Badal had on June 11 said that Bhagwant “did not need to come to Bathinda to pick an electoral fight with her”.

She had challenged him to contest against her from his home turf, Sangrur. The AAP, however, has already declared Bhagwant as its candidate from the segment.

After the resignation of veteran Akali leader and MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa from all party posts, his son and Lehragaga MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa had clarified that Dhindsa family will not contest Lok Sabha elections.

SUKHBIR: DELAY IN TRANSPLANTATION OF PADDY HIT FARMERS

Sukhbir Singh Badal said the 10-day delay in paddy transplantation brought down its output by 15% and increased the moisture content.

He said this during his visit to the Tapa and Pakho Kalan grain markets in Barnala on Saturday.
