AMRITSAR: The Punjab Women Congress workers staged a protest on Sunday against the central government over hike in LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) prices.

Led by Mahila Congress state president Mamta Dutta, the protesters gathered at Hall Gate. Slamming the central government, the agitating women raised slogans against their ‘anti-people’ policies.

The protesting workers condemned Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s promise of ‘achhe din’ which he had made during the election campaigns.

Dutta said, “The Centre is befooling the public. They have failed on all the fronts. The hike in oil prices is a burning a hole in the pocket of people. Unemployment and minimum wages have only added up to the trouble.” She said the government did not even wave off the farmer loans.

“Does by ‘achhe din’ the PM meant hike in fuel prices, declined rupee value, hike in LPG, Rafale scam, problems faced by the business community after the demonetisation and the goods and service tax (GST)?” she questioned.

“We have been protesting since long now but to no avail. The central government is not ready to meet demands of the people,” said Mamta.
