HISAR : Adjudicating officer and additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Amarjit Singh Mann fined ₹2 lakh on Vishal Beverages of Noida, manufacturer of a cold drink brand, while pronouncing judgment against the firm.

The government also penalised its seller of ₹10,000.

The government release claimed that under the campaign against adulterated and lowquality food items, the food safety officer had taken samples of cold drink under the Food Safety Act2006 from the Easy Departmental Store near Hansi, a sub-division of Hisar district. The sample was sent to the food analyst lab in Chandigarh. The test report indicated acidic artificial colour in the sample, which had no mention on the sample’s label.

However, the ADC found that the cold drink company had failed to give details of the ingredients contained in the beverage on the label.

In another case against a sweet shop, Agrawal Misthan Bhandar of Delhi Gate in Hansi, samples were collected from the shop run by Vinod Kumar. They were also sent to the lab located in Chandigarh for investigation. The report showed that the standards set out in the making of sweets were not followed. According to Food Safety and Standard Regulations 2011, the quantity of milk fat should be at least 30% in ‘khoya’, whereas in this sample it was found to be 26.2%.

During the hearing of the case, the ADC imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on the sweets store for making and selling a loss of quality from the prescribed standards.
