Sessions court rejects bail plea of 6 accused
SANGRUR : The sessions court on Saturday dismissed the bail application of six people accused of attacking the convoy of former deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on October 4, in Sangrur. Earlier this week, additional chief judicial magistrate had turned down the bail plea of the accused.
“Additional sessions judge Dr Rajneesh rejected the bail plea of six people who had attacked the convoy of Sukhbir Badal near a gurdwara here,” said Sukhvir Singh Punia, the counsel of the complainant, SAD spokesman Winnerjit Singh Goldy.
The activists of various Sikh outfits, including SAD (Amritsar), had allegedly hurled a shoe and a sword at Sukhbir’s cavalcade during his visit to Sangrur to meet party workers. Police had arrested Manjit Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Davinder Singh, Gurjant Singh, Gurjit Singh and Bachittar Singh in this connection on October 6, who are in judicial custody.
The Punjab Police’s special investigation team (SIT) recently dropped the attempt-tomurder charge against the accused.
Now, they face sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty), 427 (mischief causing damage), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (members of unlawful assembly guilty of offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
