BJP announces its mayoral candidates for five MCs

THE SAID FIVE NAMES WERE FINALISED AT THE PARTY’S ELECTION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD IN NEW DELHI ON SATURDAY

CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced its mayoral candidates for five municipal corporatio­ns which are to go to the polls on December 16.

Rajiv Jain, the media advisor to the chief minister, said that while Manmohan Goyal would be the BJP candidate for mayor’s poll in Rohtak, Gautam Sardana would its candidate for Hisar.

Goyal is the son of former minister Kishan Das who was a minister in Bansi Lal government. Sardana had contested assembly elections on the erstwhile Haryana Janhit Congress ticket and finished third.

He later joined the BJP.

Stating that the sitting mayor of Karnal, Renu Bala, had again been named as the party’s candidate, Jain said that Avneesh Kaur was named as the party’s candidate for Panipat.

A local BJP leader, Kaur is the daughter of Bhupinder Singh who has also served as a mayor.

Likewise, Madan Chauhan, state president of the BJP’s backward cell, was named as the party candidate for mayoral poll in Yamunanaga­r, Jain said.

The said five names were finalised at the party’s election committee meeting in New Delhi which was attended by party in-charge for Haryana, Anil Jain, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state president Subhash Barala.

Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, Faridabad MP Krishan Pal Gurjar, Ambala MP Ratan Lal Kataria and several state cabinet ministers and leaders also attended the meeting.

The elections to five municipal corporatio­ns (MCs) and two municipal committees (Jakhal Mandi, district Fatehabad, and Pundri, Kaithal) are scheduled to be held on December 16 in Haryana.
