Son punished, woman sends goons to thrash teacher

THE WOMAN AND TWO OF HER RELATIVES HAVE BEEN ARRESTED; CASE LODGED AGAINST 25 UNNAMED PERSONS

ROHTAK : The Rohtak Police have arrested a woman for leading a group of armed goons to her son’s school to thrash a teacher who allegedly punished her son. The accused, identified as Sharmila Devi, along with her sister and another relative were arrested on Saturday after they beat up three schoolteac­hers at a government school in Kishangarh village of Rohtak’s Meham township.

Police said a schoolteac­her had on Friday scolded Sharmila’s son for sitting on his chair and misbehavin­g. The student went home and narrated the incident to his mother, who reached the school with 25-30 people, mostly armed men, and thrashed the teacher as well as his colleagues.

Three injured teachers were admitted to the civil hospital in Meham.

“They attacked me with lathis when I was taking the class. Other teachers rushed to my rescue after hearing the commotion were also attacked,” said Devender Kumar, an injured teacher.

Some girl students, who came in defence of the teachers, were also beaten up, and were seen crying in the school.

Meanwhile, Sharmila said her son’s class teacher Devender Kumar had brutally beaten her son and he had to be admitted to a hospital. Her son also has dressings on his hands and head, she said. However, Meham station house officer (SHO) Ramesh Kumar said it was not establishe­d and no statement was received by the police from the student’s side.

“On complaint from teachers, a case has been registered against four named and 25 unnamed persons. The student’s mother and two other relatives have been arrested. If we get complaint from the student’s side, we will probe the matter,” the SHO said. The case against the accused has been registered under Sections 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object), 186 (voluntaril­y obstructin­g a public servant in the discharge of his public functions), 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 332 (voluntaril­y causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code.
