15 HELD FOR DRUG PEDDLING IN AMRITSAR IN SINGLE DAY
AMRITSAR: As many as 15 persons were arrested in separate cases in a single day on Sunday on charges of drug peddling.
Police recovered a total of 807 intoxicating tablets from the possession of the accused, police said on Sunday.
“As part of a drive against drugs, strict instructions were passed to the all police stations of Amritsar Rural to arrest all those involved in drug smuggling,” said senior superintendent of police (SSP, rural) Parampal Singh.
He added that within a period of 24 hours, the police arrested 15 persons and recovered more than 800 intoxicating tablets from their possession.
The accused were booked under Section 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act
INTOXICATING POWDER SEIZED FROM JAIL INMATES
Officials of the Amritsar central jail on Sunday seized intoxicating powder from two jail inmates during a routine search.
The accused were identified as Inderpreet Singh of Fateh Singh Colony and Harpartap Singh of Lahorka Kalan village. A case was registered on the complaint of two assistant jail superintendents, who said they recovered 20gm intoxicating powder from Inderpreet and 2gm from Harpartap. The two were booked under the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act.
