Factory worker shot at, robbed of ₹20L in Khanna
Victim was on his way back to factory after withdrawing cash from a bank
Two armed bikeborne men allegedly opened fire at a factory worker and fled with the bag carrying ₹20 lakh cash on the National Highway-1 in Khanna on Wednesday.
The victim had withdrawn the cash from a bank and was returning to his factory on his motorcycle when the incident took place.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Mehtab Singh of Jalal Pur village in Fatehgarh Sahib.
He works at a Mandi Gobindgarh-based firm ‘Rashtriya Industries’.
Police said, the incident occurred at around 4pm when Mehtab was intercepted by two bike-borne men near the Shiv temple on NH-1.
As the two tried to rob him of his cash bag, he resisted, following which one of them fired at his left leg.
Due to the bullet injury, Mehtab fell on the road and the miscreants fled with the bag.
Meanwhile, the passersby came to his help and informed the police.
After receiving the information, Khanna superintendent of police (SP investigation), Jasvir Singh, along with his team reached the spot.
Mehtab was initially taken to a private hospital in Khanna, and later referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, where his condition is stated to be stable.
In his statement, Mehtab told the police that he withdrew ₹20 lakh from Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s Khanna branch and was on his way back to the factory when he was attacked.
“The two bike-borne men stopped my way and tried to snatch the cash bag. I couldn’t recognise the duo as their faces were covered. They fired at my left leg and fled with the cash bag,” the complainant said.
The SP said police is scanning the CCTV cameras installed in the area to know about the miscreants whereabouts.
“We have registered a case at Khanna city-1 police station and have begun investigations,” he said.
The SP said no case has been registered as investigations are on.
