AMRITSAR :Punjab school education and food processing minister OP Soni on Thursday urged industrialists to play a crucial role in the development of Punjab and assured them of every possible help.

“The state government is committed to extend every possible help to industrialists,” said Soni in his inaugural address at the 13th edition of Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX). He added, “Strength of the state depends upon the growth of its industrial sector.”

The expo, which started on Thursday at Ranjit Avenue and concludes on December 10, is being organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce & Indus- try in collaboration with the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, additional chief secretary (industry and commerce) Vini Mahajan said a master plan was being prepared to strengthen industry infrastructure in the state. “Punjab government has decided to recruit staff on contract basis in the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation to benefit industrialists,” Mahajan said.

She added that a new policy will be implemented after survey of vacant plots on focal points of the state is conducted.

Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla, who was also present at the event, accused the Centre of ignoring Punjab by not providing special industrial packaging.
