Shimla records coldest night of the season at 3.8° Celsius
SHIMLA : The Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla recorded coldest night of the season with minimum temperature dipping to 3.8° Celsius on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
However, Keylong, district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, remained coldest in the state at -4.9° Celsius.
The meteorological department has depicted a further drop in the temperature over next few days. Temperature remained below the freezing point at most places in the state, an official of the Met department said, adding it is likely to snow in the higher reaches from December 10 to 12.
Shimla Met department director Dr Manmohan Singh said due to dry and cold northwesterly winds, the temperature is dropping in the state.
“Most high hills in Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts are likely to experience snow on Thursday night,” the official added.
Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of -0.6° Celsius while the temperature was 1.2° Celsius in Kufri and 0.8° Celsius in Manali.
The temperature at some other places of Himachal Pradesh was recorded at 3.8° Celsius in Shimla, 7° Celsius in Dharamshala, 4.5° Celsius in Palampur, 4.1° Celsius in Chamba and 3.4° Celsius in Dalhousie.
Minimum temperatures remained below freezing point in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday as an intense cold wave continued across the Ladakh region with Leh recording -8.6° Celsius, Met said.
The minimum temperature was -2.6°C in Srinagar, -4°C in Pahalgam and -4.6° C in Gulmarg. Jammu city recorded 8.8°C, Katra 8°C, Batote 2.7°C, Bannihal 0.2°C and Bhaderwah 0.7°C as the night’s lowest temperatures.
