MUKTSAR : Punjabi Ekta Party president Sukhpal Singh Khaira has said that Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh can’t remain mum on drug issue in the state. His comment comes in the backdrop of Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira raising his voice against the issue of drug peddling in the state last week.

“Previously, Surjeet Singh Dhiman and now Zira have raised their voice on the drug issue in the state. Drug peddling is taking place under the patronage of powerful senior police officials. Zira should not step back from his action. Captain Amarinder Singh can’t remain silent on this issue,” Khaira, who was on a visit to Muktsar to pay obeisance on the ocassion of the Maghi Mela, said.

He told reporters, “Our party will be accountable to the public. We will give a written affidavit to the election commission, that if we fail to fulfil poll promises within two years after forming the government, our party should be de-recognised. The Captain government has failed to deliver on its promises made in the manifesto.”

“Two meetings of the Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) have been held. My candidature from Bathinda is under consideration and we want that the opposition should unite on a common platform so that vote can’t be divided. I have resigned from the primary party of the AAP and they are free to take action against me. We are in contact with JJ Singh. He is naïve and the SAD misused him,” Khaira said.
