Stand by my statement, says Zira on Cong show-cause notice
FEROZEPUR: A day after the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has issued him a show-cause notice over boycotting the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected sarpanches and panches from Ferozepur district citing mafia-police nexus in the area, party MLA Kulbir Singh Zira on Monday said he stood by his statement.
Zira while boycotting the oath-taking ceremony had said there was no point in holding such functions and left the venue function presided over by state finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal soon after addressing the gathering.
Zira said, “I won’t bow down. I will reply within the stipulated time given by party. I will apprise PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar and chief minister Amarinder Singh about the unholy nexus of liquor and drug mafia with police in the area.”
The party has asked him to reply within three days.
“Instead of going public, he should have raised the matter within a party platform,” State Congress chief Sunil Jakhar had pointed out. “The party leadership has taken a serious note of the incident and may deal with the issue sternly to ensure discipline,” said a senior party functionary requesting anonymity.
