Six held with 10 pistols, 76 cartridges, 260g heroin

JALANDHAR : Police arrested six people after seizing 10 pistols, 76 live cartridges and 260 grams of heroin from them, in two different cases, on Monday.

In the first case, the police recovered nine pistols, 73 live cartridges and 260 grams heroin from the possession of five of the accused men at Mehmadpur Canal Bridge in Adampur.

The accused are Jaskaran Singh, 19, resident of Moranwali village in Hoshiarpur, who had escaped from Bal Sudhar Ghar (juvenile home) Hoshiarpur in 2018; Tejpal Singh, 22, resident of Hadiabad, Phagwara; Som Nath, 44, resident of Goraya; Shuninder Pal, 28, resident of Phillaur and Vijay of Shahkot.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal said the drugs and weapons were found when the police searched the SUV the accused were travelling in. “The accused were members of a gang and were wanted for different crimes, including murder, snatching and drug peddling,” said Mahal.

A case was registered under Sections 392 (robbery) and 379-B (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances Act.

The sixth person, Ranjit Singh of Hoshiarpur,was arrested in a separate case at Chitti village. The police seized one pistol and three live cartridges from him . A case was filed under Section 25 of the Arms Act.
