Manali shivers at -5 °C after fresh snowfall
SHIMLA : Himachal Pradesh’s famous tourist place Manali in Kullu district witnessed a fresh spell of snow, taking the temperature to -5°C, the meteorological department said on Monday. Manali witnessed 2cm more snowfall from 5.30 pm on Sunday till 8.30 am on Monday, Shimla MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said.
After a fresh spell of snowfall, Shimla recorded the coldest night of year on Sunday with the minimum temperature dropping to a low of 1 °C. It had recorded the coldest night of the season on December 26 last year at -0.6°C.
Various regions across the state, including Manali,Kufri and Dalhousie, witnessed a fresh bout of snowfall on Sunday, with temperatures remaining below the freezing points in many places.
“The temperature across few regions in the state dropped by 3 to 4 degrees owing to the passage of western disturbance in the last 24 hours,” Singh said.
“A fresh Disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from January 16 which may cause precipitation at isolated areas of the state,” the director added.
Meanwhile, a low-danger avalanche warning has been issued for five districts of Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours. On the basis of information received from Chandigarh-based Snow Avalanche and Study Establishment (SASE), the warning has been issued for avalanche prone areas, including Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Shimla.
