2 posing as DSP, head constable held in for defrauding people
AMRITSAR : Two men posing as a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a head-constable were arrested in Amritsar for allegedly defrauding people on the pretext of providing government jobs, police said on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Heera Singh (who posed as DSP) of Jalal Usma village in Amritsar and Sukhwinder Singh (who posed as head constable) of Gadhariwala village in Ferozepur.
Police recovered an SUV with a blue beacon, fake ID cards, two revolvers and 50 cartridges from them. Police said they got a tipoff on Monday about the two. “The informer told us that the two suspcious men have been roaming in the Kot Khalsa area in a Tata Safari with a blue beacon on it,” he said.
Soon, a team conducted a raid and stopped their vehicle near Gurdwara Nagar at Kot Khalsa. “They didn’t have any licence of the revolvers. We called our senior officers to the spot and the two were arrested. During their interrogation, the accused confessed that they had been cheating people on pretext of providing government jobs to them,” a police official said.
A case under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (punishment for cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act was registered at the Islamabad police station.
The two were produced in a local court that sent them to 14-day judicial custody, police said.
