Tytler’s presence at Cong event sparks row
NEW DELHI: The event to mark the elevation of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit sparked a controversy on Wednesday when opposition leaders questioned the presence of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who has long been linked with the 1984 antiSikh riots.
Tytler was linked with cases related to the riots that erupted after the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi. In 2015, the CBI filed a closure report in one of the cases.
Senior advocate and former Aam Aadmi Party leader HS Phoolka, who is leading a legal battle for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims, accused the Congress of continuously rewarding the leaders who have been prominently named in the case.
Responding to the criticism, Tytler said: “Is there an FIR against me? Is there a case? No.”
Dikshit said, “He [Tytler] is a senior party member and there is no reason why he should not be invited to such an important function.”
RAHUL IS PROTECTING TYTLER, ALLEGES SAD
CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to come clean as to why he is ‘protecting 1984 genocide perpetrator Jagdish Tytler’. Former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia said, “It’s condemnable that 1984 perpetrator Tytler was seated in the front row .”
Akali Dal leader and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said, “Rahul ji is continuing with the tradition of his family. It shows they have no respect for sentiments,” she told ANI.
