Man arrested for killing son over drinking habit
BATALA: Two days after a resident of Guru Kalgidar colony, here, Joginder Singh, lodged a police complaint claiming that his son, Manjinder Singh, a taxi driver, had been missing, police, on Friday, arrested him (Joginder) for murdering his son.
Police claim that the man killed his son as he was annoyed at his drinking habits. He has been booked for murder (section 302) of the IPC; previously, unidentified people had been booked.
The victim’s body was found lying in pool of blood near Wadala Granthian village.
“On February 5, a man, Joginder, had complained that his son Manjinder ran a taxi business and had not returned home after receiving a call from a customer, the previous night. To solve this murder mystery, a special investigation team was constituted under SP (investigation) Vipin Chowdhary,” Batala SSP Opinderjeet Singh told a press conference.
He added, “During SIT investigation of the call details of the victim, it was found that he had made three calls at police helpline number 181. In these calls, he was seen complaining that his father had beaten him up and locked him up in a room.”
“On the basis of this information, we took Joginder into custody. During interrogation, he confessed that he was angry at his son’s drinking habit and had killed him after a fight, under the influence of liquor. As a cover-up, the body was disposed of near Wadala Granthian village,” the SSP went on to add.
