‘Arrest accused of Maur blasts or will start Bargari-like stir’

BATHINDA : The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on Friday threatened to start a protest on the lines of the Bargari Morcha if those accused in the Maur bomb blast case are not arrested and demands of the victims’ families are met by March 8.

Seven persons, including five children, were killed in the twin bomb blasts at Maur on January 31, 2017, during campaignin­g for the assembly polls by Congress candidate Harminder Singh Jassi, a relative of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The months-long Bargari sit-in was held demanding action against those responsibl­e for police firing on anti-sacrilege protesters in October 2015 at Behbal Kalan firing that killed two persons.

At a press conference, SAD (A) general secretary Gursewak Singh Jawaharke, who was flanked by the affected families, said the Congress government was not arresting three followers of Dera Sacha Sauda who have been booked in connection with the blasts keeping in mind the upcoming parliament­ary elections.

of ₹1 crore each to family of the deceased, ₹10 lakh compensati­on each to the families of the injured besides paying for treatment of those injured.

The state government has rejected the claim of job by the families of the children who died saying the members were not dependent on them. The administra­tion has provided compensati­on of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those killed and ₹50,000 each to the injured persons.
