‘No one is ready to listen in Parliament’

-

What were the high points of your five-year term?

The launch of the one rankone pension and Ayushman Bharat scheme for healthcare besides GMDA, work on Dwarka expressway and infrastructure projects. The best was the appointment of a BJP mayor in the MCG.

One thing you wished to do as an MP, but couldn’t. Why?

The most important thing which I thought was not going to happen was an AIIMS in Rewari. I am delighted that the government announced it in the recent budget. This will bolster healthcare in this region.

Would you like to contest again? Why should people re-elect you?

I will contest and the reason people should elect me again is that I have a great understanding of the issues and problems of the people of Rewari, Mewat and Gurugram. Despite being from the BJP, Muslims in Mewat are not averse to voting for me and the party. I’m close to the urban and metro Gurugram and understand the language and issues of migrants as well.

How was your experience in Parliament?

I have been in Parliament since 1998 and in the past few years, I’ve seen the quality of debates and discussion going down. No one is ready to listen and the result is frequent discussion. Even if one has prepared the whole night to answer a question in the House, members are not ready to hear it. We need to improve on that.
