HOW IT HAPPENED
FEBRUARY 14 3:30am:
A CRPF convoy, consisting 78 vehicles and carrying 2,547 personnel, leaves Jammu for Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium. The personnel were returning from leave
2:15pm:
The convoy reaches Qazigund, a transit camp about 25km from Srinagar. Fourteen vehicles stay back while two develop snags. Personnel in these vehicles are accommodated in the other vehicles of the convoy
2:38pm:
The convoy leaves Qazigund. Twenty-three personnel stay back as they are headed for a CRPF detachment along the LoC. Sixteen bullet-proof vehicles join the convoy
3.33pm:
The convoy approaches Milestone 272, near a place called Latoomor in Lethpora area, when it is attacked
■ Preliminary assessments suggest that the explosivesladen vehicle entered the highway from a link road on Kakapora-Lelhar side
■ The car was moving on the left side of the road and the moment a CRPF bus — which was fifth in the convoy — came alongside it, the driver detonated a bomb
All 39 personnel in the bus ■ were killed. One securityman of the Road-Opening-Party, too, died in the attack
Five other CRPF personnel ■ got injured in the attack. They were in bus number six, which was around 50 meters behind
