JALANDHAR: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday demanded registration of a criminal case and arrest of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary who was caught on a camera in a sting operation seeking funds for elections as future investment.
“The election commission should take cognizance of the nefarious act of Congress MP and he should be arrested,” said Sukhbir.
“Such open offers not only lure vulnerable money-bags having black money, but also act as a threat to others that the UPA is coming to power suggesting that an era of corruption is likely to revisit the system, and they have no choice but to pay for favours,” added Badal.
Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, on Tuesday was caught on camera saying that demonetisation had caused a great financial loss to him and that the every politician needs money to run election affairs.
He was seen asking to invest on behalf of him, which would be awarded by back by helping them in official works once he wins.
Reacting on the controversy, Chaudhary dubbed the video as doctored, specifically designed to defame him.
He said,” It is a BJP funded TV Channel. Everybody knows the background of the particular channel and how BJP funded it to take political mileage out of it, especially during last Lok Sabha elections. They are deliberately trying to tarnish my image as i have a strong hold on this parliament seat (Jalandhar).”
“People of my state know me, I don’t need any certification of honesty from the BJP funded channel,” he added.
