TWO JUNIOR RESIDENT DOCS TRANSFERRED TOO; A SENIOR HAD ACCUSED THEM OF MISBEHAVIOUR

AMRITSAR : The junior resident doctors of Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar, on Thursday sat on an indefinite strike outside the office of college principal, Dr Sujata Sharma, protesting her move of suspending a junior resident doctor allegedly on a false complaint made by a senior resident doctor.

The decision to protest comes after GMC principal on Thursday issued a suspension letter to one of their colleagues, Dr Abhishek Khera, and ordered transfer of two other junior resident doctors. GMC principal’s action comes nine days after a senior resident Dr Rishma Bhatia had complained against the trio for ‘misbehaving’ with her.

On September 10, Dr Rishma Bhatia alleged that the three junior doctors were missing from their duties in surgical ward of the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital , a unit of medical college. When she complained against them, they allegedly misbehaved with her. On the other hand, the junior doctors approached ‘antiragging’ committee head Dr Veena and principal Dr Sujata and alleged that the senior doctor, used to insult them in front of patients and assigned them extra duties as part of ragging.

The matter was being inquired by a ten-member committee. The committee on Thursday submitted its report to principal finding junior doctors guilty and suggesting immediate action against them.

The resident doctors submitted a letter, signed by 22 students, and demanded an inquiry into the matter by ‘anti-ragging committee’.

Junior doctors alleged that the committee had acted in favour of the lady senior doctor without considering ragging charges against her. They said that the college authorities are supporting ragging in the college by favouring senior doctors and ignoring their claims.
