Body of soldier killed in J&K to reach his village today

JAIPUR: The mortal remains of soldier Rajendra Singh who died in action while repulsing a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir will be brought to his native village in Jaisalmer on Monday.

Naik Rajendra Singh (27) of the Rashtriya Rifles was a resident of Mohangarh in Jaisalmer died in the cross fire between terrorists and the army in Ramban area of JK on Saturday. He is survived by his wife and two-yearold son and two brothers.

As the family waited for his mortal remains to reach home at Mohangarh, a pall of gloom descended on the village . Local markets in Mohangarh were shut in honour of the martyr. Villagers and relatives visited Singh’s bereaved family ot offer their condolence­s. As the sudden death of the trooper was inconsolab­le for the family, call for vengeance could be heard from the visitors and relatives.

“Vengeance should be wreaked against whatever happened to my brother,” said Surendra Singh, Singh’s brother at the family home.

Villagers said that Singh was full of patriotic enthusiasm since childhood and always talked of “doing something for the country. Fifty-four days after article370 was made scrapped for Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorist attacks were witnessed in the valley on Saturday. However, their attempts were made unsuccessf­ul by the Indian security forces. In an incident, the terrorists tried to make a family captive in Ramban area who hid inside the family’s home. This was when the army shot the three and rescued the family, however, Nayak Rajendra Singh died in the crossfire. Two policemen were also injured in the incident. In yet another incident in the valley, a CRPF convoy was also attacked by the terrorists on Saturday, however, no trooper was injured and the terrorists fled the spot. The mortal remains of the trooper from Jaisalmer will be brought to Jodhpur airport from Delhi on Monday at 2.15 pm and will then be moved to Mohangarh in Jaisalmer. Singh's body was brought from Udhampur to Jammu air force station on Sunday morning. From there, his body was brought to Delhi on Sunday afternoon. His mortal remains will be brought by air from Delhi to Jodhpur on Monday afternoon, press release by the defence PRO said.
