Three Jeeva gang members arrested for extortion threat
HARIDWAR: Three gangsters of notorious Jeeva gang were arrested from suburban Jwalapur area of Haridwar district for alleged extortion threats, said police.
Senior Superintendent of Haridwar police, Krishan Raj Prakash said arrested gang members Vikki Thakkur and Nikhil Thakur, both brothers, and Rahul Dixit were arrested on a tip off from an informer on Saturday. He said a country made pistol,16 live cartridges, ~3 lakh cash, 49 blank cheques and a diary was recovered from their possession.
All three belong to Jeeva gang operated by Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva ,who had allegedly threatened parcel trader Avneesh, resident of Neelkhudana, demanding 30 percent commission on his railway parcel business, said police.
A case was lodged at Jwalapur police station by Avneesh against them for alleged extortion, threat and criminal intimidation earlier.
A case of murder of a blanket trader Amit Dxit at city police station is already registered against the brother duo in 2016.
Krishan Raj Prakash said further interrogation is being held of the arrested gang members and information is being collected of various other criminal cases lodged against them in other police stations.
He added that police is also checking the details found in the diary which may further expose their criminal activities and nexus.
Notably, the arrested persons lived a luxurious life having sports utility vehicle, branded clothes, costly watches and high end smart phones.
Jeeva is currently lodged in Mainpuri ,Uttar Pradesh jail in connection with a murder of BJP leader but his gang is still active in western Uttar Pradesh, plain districts of Uttarakhand, Delhi and Haryana.
As per a police official on condition of anonymity, Vikki and Nikhil were also spotted at a Dharamshala and hotel near Laltarao bridge, which led to police tracing the accused.
Elsewhere, police nabbed two youths involved in various cellular mobile phone thefts from Ranipur area on Saturday late evening. As per police post in-charge Satendra Negi during routine vehicle checking two youths were stopped on suspicion, from whom six smart phones were found.
When interrogated, both broke down and confessed to their involvement in various mobile thefts from Ranipur and SIIDCUL industrial area in past few months.
Arrested youths Akash Pal of Palvihar colony, Brahampuri, SIIDCUL and Pawan Malik of Muzzafarnagar, currently residing in Ranipur, revealed that they used to target secluded houses having unlocked gate after recce.
A case under sections 379 and 411 of India Penal Code has been registered against the accused, said police.
