‘Guru Ka Bagh’ at Golden Temple to have 400 plant species
AMONG THE FRUIT TREES, SHRUBS AND FLOWERS, 80 SPECIES WILL BE ONLY OF ROSES
AMRITSAR: As many as 400 types of plants are to be grown in the garden named ‘Guru ka Bagh’ which is being established at the Golden Temple complex. Plantation of the saplings was started on Tuesday.
With the help of horticulturists, the garden is being grown in the space between Guru Ram Das langal ghar (community kitchen) and Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan (congregation) hall.
Head granthi Golden Temple Giani Jagtar Singh inaugurated the plantation in the presence of senior Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members and office bearers. The SGPC which manages the affairs of the Sikh shrine has assigned this task to Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale.
Chief secretary SGPC Roop Singh said flowers, herbs, fruits trees and shrubs will be grown in the garden which would spread its fragrance in the shrine complex. He said the garden will help reduce pollution and enhance the greenery.
Roop Singh said that approximately 400 species of flowers will be grown, of which 80 species will be those of only roses. Flowers in different colours and shades will be planted in the garden. Trees and shrubs, including fruit trees will also be of different heights.
“A few of these species are found in Punjab, while many are being brought from several places such as Dehradun, Lucknow and Nainital. Baba Kashmir Singh is making all arrangements. This garden will be exemplary,” he added.
Prior to this, SGPC established a roof garden and vertical garden in and around the Golden Temple, one of the most visited religious sites in the world.
