Whither weather, the wayward prankster

The hot and humid weather has graciously made way for its milder and the more likeable counterpart recently. The proof of this observation is that whenever any two people meet, they can’t help citing this change. The relaxed expression over people’s faces is another indication of the relief that this much-awaited makeover has brought along.

The weather, be it summer, winter, autumn, spring or rain, of course affects us all physically but the fact that the vicissitudes of seasons influence our outlook, is also true. A friend, Jasmine, extols winter and often mentions that she is at her creative best as long as the cold phase lasts. No wonder, she’s always full of beans during the nippy days.

Nina, a neighbour, on the other hand eulogises summer. The rise in mercury raises her spirits and its fall depresses her. Some people happen to be cheerful during the rainy season, while others are woebegone at this time. Basically, all seasons have an exclusive charm and they complement each other.

Our demeanour projects the season we are enjoying within ourselves. And how peculiar that in one’s private world, each one has a distinct climate notwithstanding the weather outside!

Sometimes spring is in the air but a person could be conceptually living in autumn. When it’s raining all over, you come across one who is absolutely parched, wilted and facing drought-like conditions. Then there are people who, in spite of there being autumn or any other season for that matter, consistently revel in the vernal winds.

They act as if they never had a brush with any disquiet or a grim situation. Forever upbeat and content, they rejoice in practically all shades of the various phases.

Everyone thrives in the proximity of these staunch optimists and they even make good role models.

How can one disregard the waywardness of weather; its power is limitless. It can make any situation unstable and even change history. One reckons that on account of its uncanny sense of humour, it plays pranks on us, the helpless beings. I’m reminded of a family friend’s function which they had planned immaculately, a few years back. The heavy downpour, exactly on the appointed day and time, literally poured water over all their plans. The number of attending guests too went down. Food went waste. The following day, it was all bright and sunny! On second thoughts, one wonders if the absentees were all fairweather friends.

When you fall short of an idea during a conversation, the subject of weather comes in handy to keep it alive. It also helps to break the ice with someone, to set the ball rolling. The grand finale of any news bulletin is the weather forecast but then it tricks even the weathermen ever so often. We in fact, stand no chance of knowing about the weather’s inclinations. But having the knack of enjoying its diverse dispositions at all times seems to be the pragmatic approach.

HOW PECULIAR THAT IN ONE’S PRIVATE WORLD, EACH ONE HAS A DISTINCT CLIMATE NOT WITH STANDING THE WEATHER OUTSIDE!
