AMRITSAR: Indiscriminate firing was reported at Amritsar bus stand when two groups of transporters clashed over the timings of bus, on Thursday.

Though no one was injured in the clash, but the firing created panic among the passengers who ran helter-skelter to hide themselves for half-an-hour.

Despite a police post inside the bus stand, the miscreants continued to run amok for at least 30 minutes, causing panic.

Many buses were also damaged in the firing between the groups belonging to New Deep bus service and Baba Budha Sahib bus service, said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-City 3), Harpal Singh.

The video of the incident had also gone viral on social media in which dozens of miscreants equipped with sharp-edged weapons are seen running amok vandalising buses. Sound of indiscriminate firing can also be heard in the video clip.

Soon after learning about the incident, the ADCP along with other senior police officials reached the bus stand but the accused had already fled the spot.

ADCP Harpal said, “Both the groups were at loggerheads over timings of buses for the past two days. They had also visited the office of regional transport officer (RTO), Ferozepur, for sorting out the timings. On Thursday, a clash broke out between the members of both the groups. They also fired aerial shots.”

Police have registered a case under Sections 336 , 160 (punishment for committing affray), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act.

ADCP Harpal Singh said four members of New Deep Transport bus service and three members of Baba Budha Transport company have been identified and the hunt was on to arrest them. Around 30 unidentified people were also booked in the case.
