BANGKOK: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday released a commemorative coin marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev besides releasing a Thai translation of the Tamil classic ‘Tirukkural’ at the ‘Sawasdee PM Modi’ community event in Bangkok. Modi also addressed the Indian diaspora.

“Immense fervour at the ‘Sawasdee PM Modi’ community event in Bangkok,” the PMtweeted. The Indian community in Thailand is about 2,50,000-member strong. ‘Tirukkural’ is written by poet Thiruvalluvar and has been translated into many languages.

JALANDHAR : Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Saturday gave yet another call for joint celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak on the stage of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) at Sultanpur Lodhi.

The jathedar, who was in Sultanpur Lodhi to review the arrangements for the celebrations, made the appeal while talking to mediapersons.

“We should remain together at least on the occasion of Parkash Purb and sit on one stage,” he said.

After an all-party meet chaired by chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday, the Punjab government had declared that it will hold the state-level function on its own stage.

However, tourism and cultural affairs minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday said the government is ready to attend the SGPC function also.
