SGPC organises 15k ‘sahaj paath’ on Day 2

SULTANPUR LODHI : The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday organised 15,000 Sehaj paath at Bhai Mardana Ji Diwan Hall of Gurdwara Ber Sahib on second day of the 13-day long celebratio­ns of 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak. As per gurdwara officials, around 1.5 lakh people paid obeisance on Saturday and figures are expected to cross 2 lakh on Sunday due to holiday.

Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh along with SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal visited the gurdwara and reviewed the arrangemen­ts for the main functions to be organised at Guru Nanak Stadium from November 9 to 13.

Longowal said that 64 langars were organised by the SGPC and other religious bodies along with 16 Jora ghar to facilitate the visitors within the 5km radius of Gurdwara Ber Sahib.

As many as 35 fire tenders, 300 fire staff were deployed at Sultanpur and Dera Baba Nanak to meet any contingenc­y.

The government has set up one fire station each inside the tent city at Sultanpur Lodhi and Dera Baba Nanak and three water tanks with a capacity of one lakh litre each has been put up in all three tent cities. “24 hours duty has been assigned to the employees of fire stations. Two fire audits have been conducted by the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and deficienci­es pointed by them have been rectified,” local bodies minister Brahm Mohindra said.

WORKER DIES OF ELECTROCUT­ION

A 40-year-old labourer, identified as Sudarshan of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, was electrocut­ed on Friday night at the main pandal of the state government. Deceased had gone to fetch water from a tank where he came in contact with a naked wire and died on the spot.

He was rushed to the hospital but declared brought dead. Following this, deputy commission­er DPS Kharbanda visited the site and sought an explanatio­n from the PWD and PSPCL officials.
