4 MORE LEADERS RELEASED IN KASHMIR

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday released four more mainstream leaders, including three former legislators, who were under preventive detention in Srinagar.

Three members of National Conference(NC) and one leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were freed from the MLA hostel,181 days after they were detained ahead of the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5 last year.

“Four leaders have been released,” said additional director general of police(ADGP), security, Munir Khan.

A senior official of Srinagar identified the leaders as former MLAs from National Conference (NC) Abdul Majeed Larmi of Homshalibug and Mohammad Shafi of Budgam, NC leader from Kokernag, Ghulam Nabi Bhat and PDP leader M Yousuf Bhat who has been a former legislator from Shopian.

On January 16, five leaders, including three former legislators, were released by the government from Sringar MLA hostel. On December 30, five leaders were released from the hostel.

Besides the release of the leaders from the MLA hostel, e ight mainstream politicians were also released from their house detention on January 3 and 17.

At least 16 leaders are still detained at the MLA hostel, including People Conference chairman Sajjad Lone, former IAS officer turned politician Shah Faesel and NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar.
