One fatality, 144 new cases in J&K

269 MORE PATIENTS RECOVER, ACTIVE CASES IN UT STAND AT 2,557; HIGHEST NUMBER OF CASES IN PULWAMA

SRINAGAR:: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded 144 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of cases in the Union territory to 7,237, officials said.

While 45 of the new cases were from Jammu region, 99 cases were from the Valley, they said. Among these, 53 people had returned to the UT recently.

A patient from Shopian district of Kashmir region also died due to the virus. With this, the death toll in the UT has risen to 95.

Officials said the highest number of infections were reported from Pulwama where 29 more people have tested positive for the disease, followed by Srinagar at 18 and Pulwama at 17.

Also, 269 more patients have recovered and were discharged from various Covid-19 hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir. The total number of patients who have recovered in the UT is 4,585 and active cases stand at 2,557.

Out of 95 people who succumbed to the virus in J&K, Srinagar has the highest 22 deaths and at present there are 604 active cases in the district. So far, 11 people have died in Jammu division and 85 in Kashmir.

According to a spokespers­on of the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), a total of 2,973 samples were tested on Monday out of which 109 were found positive including 33 from CRPF/BSF battalions.

So far, 3,58,530 samples have been collected across the UT and 2,78,679 people have been enlisted for observatio­n.
