ASI, constable face probe as theft accused escapes
J&K MAN WAS AGAIN APPREHENDED AT ZIRAKPUR BARRIER AFTER FLEEING FROM SEC-22 POLICE POST
CHANDIGARH:An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and constable with Chandigarh Police faced a departmental inquiry on Friday for dereliction of duty after a theft accused escaped from their custody even though he was arrested later.
Investigating officer and ASI Yashpal and constable Yogesh were at the Sector 22 police post at 8.30pm questioning Sanjay Kumar, 24, from Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, arrested for a theft in the sector, when he asked for a toilet break. As Yogesh was escorting him, Sanjay allegedly pushed the cop, scaled the wall and fled.
Sanjay had been arrested on Wednesday in connection with a theft and remanded to three-day police custody on Thursday.
Sanjay had recently moved in with two students staying on rent in Sector 22 and was accused of stealing their electronics items when they were out of town.
After Sanjay’s rearrest from the Zirakpur barrier, another case under Section 224 (intentionally offers any resistance to the lawful apprehension) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 17 police station here.
