441 test positive in J&K, Covid-19 count now 13,198

Five succumb to virus in Kashmir; 607 patients recover, say officials

SRINAGAR:Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded five Covid-related deaths while 441 people tested positive for the disease taking the total number of cases in the region to 13,198, officials said.

Around 607 patients recovered from the disease, a single day record so far since the first cases emerged in March. Of the new positive cases, 398 are from Kashmir and 43 from Jammu division. Among these 55 patients have a travel history.

Officials said five more people have succumbed to the disease all of them in Kashmir valley. With this, the death toll in the UT has risen to 236—218 fatalities have been reported in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu division till date.

The UT, particular­ly Kashmir valley, is witnessing an increase in death toll and new cases have been reported for the past one month. As many as 135 persons have died in the last 18 days alone.

Active cases in the UT stand at 5,797 after 607 patients recovered on Saturday. A government spokespers­on said 44 people were discharged in Jammu division and 563 in Kashmir. This is the highest single-day recovery of Covid patients in the Union territory.

The number of people who have recovered since the first cases emerged on March 9 has reached 7,165, taking the recovery rate to 54.28%. The number of recovered cases was more than positive cases recorded.

Of the total recoveries, 5,456 were cured in Kashmir while 1,709 in Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in cases was witnessed in Srinagar district where 124 more people tested positive, followed by Baramulla at 63 and Pulwama at 48. In Jammu division, 15 cases were reported in Jammu district, followed by 12 in Samba district.

As many as 3.26 lakh people have been enlisted for observatio­n — 38, 750 in home quarantine, 5,797 in hospital isolation, 13 in hospital quarantine and 43,480 under home surveillan­ce.

Besides these, 2.38 lakh people have completed their 28-day surveillan­ce period.

The highest daily tally of positive cases was recorded on June 7 with 620 cases and two deaths, which in a way appears to be the turning point in things going worse.

SAMBA’S VIJAYPUR TO REMAIN UNDER LOCKDOWN TILL JULY 24

Jammu Amid sudden spike in Covid-19 cases, Samba district administra­tion on Friday imposed a complete lockdown in Vijaypur tehsil under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act and 144 of the CrPC from July 19 to 24.

Deputy commission­er Rohit Khajuria said, “Amid relaxation­s in lockdown, Covid-19 cases have been increasing in Vijaypur tehsil.

To check the spread of virus, a complete lockdown has been imposed in the tehsil till July 24.” However, clinics, chemist shops, ayurvedic clinics, homoeopath­y clinics and testing laboratori­es will remain open from 9 am to 8 pm.

Essential shops will also remain open from 7am to 12pm.
