61 fresh infections reported in HP, tally goes up to 1,725

SURGE IN NUMBERS Sirmaur’s Govindgarh emerges as Covid-19 hotspot; active cases stand at 593

SHIMLA : Sixty-one more people were tested positive for Covid-19 in Himachal on Wednesday taking the state tally to 1,725.

Twenty-three cases were reported in Shimla, 10 in Solan, seven in Sirmaur, five in Kangra, seven in Una, four in Chamba and three in Mandi.

Sirmaur deputy commission­er RK Pruthi said five among the seven people who tested positive in district were from Govindgarh of Nahan town.

Govindgarh has emerged as a covid hotspot with at least 75 people testing positive in less than a week. A four-month-old child, a six-year-old girl and three women are among the patients.

The virus is believed to have spread in the locality at a marriage function which was attended by a woman who was the first to test positive.

“In Chamba, four people including an HP Police cop have tested positive. Two family members and primary contacts of a Covid-19 positive army jawan have also contracted the disease. The fourth patient is a woman, who is a primary contact of another patient,” said chief medical officer Dr Rajesh Guleri.

2 CSIR RESEARCHER­S AMONG SIX TEST POSITIVE IN KANGRA

Kangra DC Rakesh Kumar Prajapati said that two researcher­s of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s (CSIR) Institute of Himalayan Bioresourc­e Technology (IHBT), have tested positive.

One of them is from Bhiwani and the other from Delhi.

Besides, two army personnel, aged 30 and 33 years, presently at the institutio­nal quarantine facility of Yol Cantonment (the headquarte­rs of Rising Star Corps) have tested positive. One person was tested positive in Nurpur.

Special secretary health Nipun Jindal said the active cases in the state had gone up to 593 while 1,105 people have been cured.

Ten people have died of the contagion.

Solan is the worst hit district with 391 cases followed by Kangra with 358 cases. Hamirpur’s tally is 286; Una 171; Sirmaur 130; Shimla 120; Chamba 84; Bilaspur 66; Mandi 53; Kinnaur 39and Kullu 22.
