18 deaths, 986 cases take state tally close to 25,000

LUDHIANA/ PATIALA/ AMRITSAR/ JALANDHAR/ MOHALI/ BATHINDA: The surge in Covid-related deaths and fresh infections continues in Punjab with 18 fatalities and 985 cases reported on Monday. With this, 24,889 coronaviru­s patients have been recorded in the state do date, while 604 have died. The state now has 8,550 active cases.

Ludhiana district again took the lead with 11 deaths and 308 fresh cases on Monday.

In Patiala, six deaths were attributed to the virus, while 248 tested positive on Monday.

Three deaths were reported in Sangrur district while 48 people tested positive for coronaviru­s on Monday.

4 DEATHS, 220 NEW CASES IN DOABA

Four deaths and 220 positive cases were recorded in Doaba region on Monday.

In a highest single-day spike in Jalandhar district, 166 new patients, including 21 cops of Punjab Armed Police tested positive. Also, 29 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Hoshiarpur district, 14 in Kapurthala and 11 in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

In Mohali, two more fatalities were reported from Dera Bassi, taking the toll in the district to 21 even as 76 fresh cases took the patient count to 1,385.

66-YEAR-OLD DIES IN AMRITSAR

A 66-year-old man, resident of Airport road, died after testing positive for Covid19 at a local hospital in Amritsar on Monday, health officials said. Also, 40 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported from Gurdaspur and 13 from Tarn Taran districts.

In Ferozepur district, 33 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported on Monday. A spokespers­on of the district administra­tion said 28 were the contacts of the Covid patients. Now, the total number of active cases in the district has reached 352. In Bathinda, 32 people tested positive, while nine were found infected in Fazilka.
