J&K’s Covid-19 cases cross 25,000-mark

THE RECOVERY RATE SOARED TO 68.49%, THE HIGHEST SO FAR,AFTER 372 MORE PEOPLE WERE CURED

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded six deaths and 470 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total positive cases in the Union territory to 25,367, officials said. The region crossed the 25,000-mark in 165 days since the first case was reported on March 9.

The recovery rate soared to 68.49%, the highest so far,after 372 more people were cured and discharged from various hospitals, taking overall recoveries to 17,375. Active cases in the UT stand at 7,514.

A government spokesperson said 90 people were discharged in Jammu division and 282 in Kashmir. Of the total, 13,519 were cured in Kashmir and 3,856 in the Jammu division.

Of the new cases, 368 are from Kashmir and 102 from Jammu division. Among these, 107 patients have a travel history.

Of the 25,367 cases in J&K, 5,047 were travellers, a spokesperson said.

Officials said six more people had succumbed to the disease, all of them in Kashmir. With this, the death toll in the UT has risen to 478. As many as 443 fatalities have been reported in Kashmir and 35 in Jammu. The highest single day spike of 17 deaths was recorded on July 30. The death toll had crossed the 300 mark on July 25.

The UT, particularly Kashmir valley, is witnessing an average of 10 deaths a day for the past month. As many as 276 persons have died in July alone.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in fresh cases was witnessed in Srinagar where 115 more people tested positive, followed by Bandipora at 79 and Baramulla at 41.In Jammu division, the highest number of 58 cases was reported in Jammu district and 16 in Ramban district.

Srinagar is the worst affected district with 6,263 total cases and 154 deaths. The active cases in the district reached 2,411 after 95 recovered today, the spokesperson said.

Till date, 3.95 lakh people have been enlisted for observation — 40,932 in home quarantine, 7,514 in isolation, and 48,716 under home surveillance.

Besides these, 2.97 lakh people have completed their surveillance period.
