3 TERRORISTS, SOLDIER KILLED

Three Hizbul terrorists were gunned down in an encounter, in which an Indian Army soldier also lost his life, during a security operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama on Saturday. This was the second such encounter in 24 hours in the Valley

SRINAGAR: A soldier and three militants were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. The fight started last night when the army and the police launched a joint operation in Zadoora village of Pulwama district.

Inspector general of police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said the militants killed in the encounter were associated with the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

“The operation was launched on a specific input and in the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed . They have been identified as Adil Hafiz, Arshid Ahmad Dar and Rouf Ahmad Mir. They are all residents of Pulwama,” he said.

Police said an army jawan was also critically injured in the gunfight, he was shifted to the army hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the militants killed in the encounter had been involved in other terror acts. “They were part of the group involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area, including attacks on police and security establishm­ents. As per police records, Hafiz was involved in the attack on the police party at Prichoo Bridge. One police personnel was killed and another injured in the attack.”

The bodies of the militants have been be sent to Baramulla for burial. An AK rifle and two pistols were recovered from the spot.
