J&K’s August death toll crosses 300

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded seven deaths and 546 fresh Covid-19 infections on Saturday, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union Territory to 36,377. The number of deaths crossed 300 this month while the cumulative death toll reached 685.

As many as 648 people were cured and discharged from different hospitals taking the overall recoveries to 28,020 which account for the recovery rate of 77%, the highest so far. There are, at present, 7,672 active cases in J&K. A government spokespers­on said 119 people were discharged in Jammu division and 529 in Kashmir. Of the total, 21,715 were cured in Kashmir and 6,305 in Jammu division.

As many as 332 people tested positive in Kashmir, including 33 travellers, while 214 cases were reported from Jammu, of which 55 were travellers.Officials said seven more people have succumbed to the disease, four of them in Kashmir and three of them in Jammu division. There have been 625 fatalities in Kashmir and 60 in Jammu so far . The death toll had crossed 300-mark on July 25, 400-mark on August 3, 500-mark on August 13 and 600mark on August 22.Most deaths were reported in July and August. As many as 276 persons died in July and 304 died between August 1 to 29.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in fresh cases was witnessed in Srinagar where 102 more people tested positive, followed by Bandipora at 49 and Pulwama at 36.A total 134 cases was reported in Jammu district.
