JAMMU: Security forces on Monday busted a terror module of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) with the arrest of three over-ground workers (OGWs), including a government school teacher, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rashmi Wazir said, “In a joint operation, the police and army’s RR unit with active support from the intelligence busted a major LeT revival plan in Mahore area of Reasi district. The three over-ground workers of the LeT, including a government school teacher, were in contact with their handler Mohammad Qasim across the LoC in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) via Whatsapp calling. Benami transactions have been detected in their accounts.”

The three OGWs are Ghulam Hussain, son of Ali Mohammad of Kulwa Mulas, Abdul Aziz, son of Ahemdu of Sildhar and Ashfaq Ahmed, son of Jamal Din of Malan Bathoie. “The Lashkar-eTaiba handler Mohammad Qasim is a resident of Mahore, who had crossed over to PoK in 2002,” the SSP added.

“On August 5, we had got a tip from reliable sources at Mahore police station that some anti-national elements in the area were in touch with LeT terrorists based in PoK to revive the outfit in Mahore with an intention to vitiate peace and wage a war against the country,” the SSP said. A case under Sections 120-B,121,122, 123, 124 of the Indian Penal Code was registered and a special investigation team was constituted to look into the matter.

“During the course of investigation, with the help of technical data analysis support from army’s RR and intelligence units working in Mahore area and interrogation of suspects by the SIT, it emerged that Mohammad Qasim, who had crossed over to

PoK in 2002 (and some other youth of the area who are in PoK), was the mastermind behind the module,” the SSP said.

Six civilians hurt as militants hurl grenade at army vehicle SRINAGAR: Six people were injured on Monday after militants lobbed a grenade at a vehicle of the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

Army spokesman Rajesh Kalia said militants hurled a hand-grenade on an army convoy moving from Baramulla towards Srinagar, which missed the target and instead exploded on the road, resulting in injuries to six civilians.

According to a senior police official militants hurled the grenade from the old building hospital at Azadganj bridge.

“Out of the six, two are seriously injured and have been shifted to Srinagar hospital. The other injured are being treated at a local hospital,” the official said.
