Unions recruiting volunteers to ensure order in tractor parade
FARIDKOT: Apprehending that anti-farmer groups might attempt to instigate farmers during the ‘tractor parade’ in Delhi on January 26, Kirti Kisan Union has started recruitment of volunteers across the state to keep vigil and maintain discipline.
“On the first day of the drive, around 3,500 farmers registered their names in Sangrur, Moga and Faridkot districts to participate as volunteers,” claimed Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala, vice-president KKU, and member of the All-India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee.
“Following the track record of the government, we fear they might attempt to instigate farmers during the tractor parade. We are recruiting volunteers to organise the parade and maintain discipline and have received a huge response. All volunteers will be instructed to reach before January 26 to prepare a plan for peaceful conduct of the parade,” said Rajinder, adding that the Naujawan Bharat Sabha (NBS) and Punjab Students Union (PSU) will also recruit volunteers for the parade.
Rupinder Singh, state president NBS, said, they will start recruiting volunteers for the
tractor parade from Lohri (January 13) in nine districts of the state. “Fifty desks would be set up from January 13. A recruitment desk each would be set up at Singhu and Tikri borders. We are recruiting volunteers to maintain discipline as per farmer union directions. We also fear that police will attempt to stop us from entering Delhi. A unit of volunteers will lead the parade and remove blockades on the way,” he added.
“I want to contribute in the protest against black farm laws and make the parade a success,” said Surinder Singh of Moga.
