BJP-LED CENTRE INTIMIDATING FARMERS VIA NIA, SAYS SUKHBIR

-

TARN TARAN: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged on Saturday that the Centre is using the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to intimidate farmers, who have been protesting at the borders of Delhi for the repeal of three farm laws.

Addressing a rally at Ghasitpura village of Tarn Taran, where former district president of the Congress party, Manjit Singh Ghasitpura, joined the SAD, Sukhbir said, “Farmers are not anti-nationals. The Centre is intimidating farmers by issuing notices to them through security agencies, including the NIA.” Ghasitpura, who has joined the SAD with the efforts of former MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu, had resigned from Congress over “inaction” in the state’s worstever hooch tragedy that killed 130 persons in August.

On talks between farm leaders and the Central ministers, Sukhbir said the central government was not sincere and was only trying to tire out farmers.

“It is a matter of shame that CM Amarinder Singh had been voted as one of the worst performing chief ministers of the country,” Sukhbir claimed, quoting an independent survey released on Friday.

“The low net approval of the CM shows how disillusioned Punjabis are with Capt Amarinder Singh,” he said adding the main reason for this was the CM’s failure to fulfil any of the promises made to the people.

Former CM Parkash Singh Badal was responsible for making Punjab power surplus besides bringing in irrigation projects, he said.
